Displaytech now offers an improved 5” TFT LCD with a full viewing angle. This full viewing angle feature is due to a new film that is added to the LCD during production. The film allows the screen to behave similar to an IPS display where the screen contents are visible from any angle.
Why add this film versus upgrading the display’s screen to use IPS technology? IPS screens are expensive and can dramatically increase the per unit cost. We found that for this display size, there is more preference to keep costs down than to use the latest technology. For the majority of our customers, the cost of an IPS screen is not justified for their application. This film is a cost-effective enhancement compared to using an IPS screen.
